Eight Seconds Plus Five (with Enrico Ascoli)

Eight Seconds Plus Five  is an equation based on the Dolbear’s Law which states the relationship between the air temperature and the rate at which crickets chirp. The cricket, that in both literature and legends often symbolizes human conscience, according to this Law can be seen as an authentic and innate detector of global warming; but also protagonist of a possible solution to it. Crickets are infact one of the most nutrient and sustainable source for food supply for the future. Eight Seconds Plus Five  as an installation becomes a place of listening and of meditation, a sort of carpet composed of several felt hats mostly flattened to the ground. A landscape in ruin where five of these hats host hundreds of singing crickets. A sound that will soon become familiar in the homes of the future: a new environmental conscience.
